The Farmhouse Sessions

Conversation and Community

The Farmhouse Sessions are a unique initiative born of my own experience growing up in a rural farming community in Alberta.  Whether there was a new baby, a death, or a neighbor needing help to bring in the hay before the rains hit, we always had ‘community’.

As I began looking at my art with the belief that it could, in fact, be a career, I asked myself how I could use it to serve others. Creating community came immediately to mind.  Art connects people – to themselves, to others, to nature, to history, to culture.  So why not take that intrinsic momentum and create a situation to really help it flourish?

The Farmhouse Sessions were born!

Four times per year we gather at my little old farmhouse.  We choose relevant and interesting topics to explore.  If a person so desires, they can then embark on a creative journey to artistically document aspects of the topic that most intrigue them.  Like all things creative, there is great freedom and flexibility in this. Some women want just the conversation, some want to create something artsy and tangible afterwards.  Anything goes, as this is truly each individual’s decision.
