International Women’s Day

Women.

We are entwined, interwoven. Our relationships are a complex series of connections spanning generations and lifetimes and blood relations.

We guide one another, lift one another, celebrate one another, protect one another.

We are keepers of wisdom, passed down when women guide us in birthing babies, when women help new moms navigate motherhood in the wee hours of the morning, when granddaughters snuggle up with their grandmothers and ask about their lives.  When life has thrown us more than we can bear, we call upon ancestors long passed to give us strength and wisdom.

We are all the layers of this Earth: the air, the mountain tops, the rock and dirt, the plants and flowers and the underground rivers, that rage at times, but that mostly flow silently, keeping us connected to each other, and always moving somewhere only we can sense.

To the women in my life who walk with me no matter where the path leads, I open my heart so completely today and say Thank you and I Love You. <3

To the women who have walked before me, I bow down in humble gratitude and Thank You for your sacrifices, as I know they were many. I thank you for the lessons in persistence and strength, and for giving me the knowing that I have permission to know and speak my own mind. And that you demand it of me.

To my own daughters, and the women who will walk long after me, I say, never feel alone. Our lineage is a work of art all its own. We walk together always, in the colour of your hair, the way you crinkle your face in the sun, and the freckles that kiss your cheeks. The love of the women in your life will transcend time. Love greatly and bravely and whole heartedly.

May we all take a moment today to reflect on the incredible generations of women that have come before us and have demanded change for the better!  You are the heroes of our lives.
